How to pass the Life in the UK test
Updated 10 October 2026
Short answer. You need 75% (18 of 24). Learn one chapter at a time, practise with explanations, repeat facts with flashcards, then take mock tests until you are above the pass mark several times in a row. No study method can guarantee a pass.
1. Know the target
The pass mark is 75%, which is 18 correct answers out of 24. In a mock test your score tells you how far you are from that line.
2. Learn a chapter at a time
The handbook is long. Split it into short chapters and learn one in a sitting. NoFuss Pass has 14 chapters, each with key facts and a quick-cram list.
3. Practise with the reason
After each chapter, answer questions and read why each answer is right. Wrong answers are the most useful ones: they show exactly which fact to revise.
4. Repeat what you forget
Dates, places and people are easy to mix up. Flashcards that come back just as you are about to forget them fix facts in your memory with less time.
5. Take mock tests
A mock test has the same shape as the real one: 24 questions in 45 minutes. NoFuss Pass has 18 of them. A sensible aim is to score above the pass mark several times in a row before you sit the real test. That is our suggestion, not an official rule.
6. Give yourself time
Short sessions on most days beat one long weekend. Build a plan backwards from your test date. See our study plans for two, four and eight weeks.
