Life in the UK test-day checklist
Updated 10 October 2026
Short answer. Book at least 3 days ahead, use ID whose name matches your booking exactly, and check your booking for the centre rules. The rest of this list is our suggestion.
Before you book (from GOV.UK)
- Have an email address, a debit or credit card and accepted ID ready.
- The name on your booking must match the name on the ID you book with exactly, and the ID must have a photo that looks like you.
- Book online at least 3 days in advance. The fee is £50.
- If you have an eVisa, use a share code from your UKVI account where GOV.UK says so.
In the week before (our suggestions)
- Take at least one full mock test in the time limit and review every wrong answer.
- Revise your three weakest chapters.
- Look up the test centre address and how long it takes to get there.
- Read your booking confirmation for anything the centre asks you to bring or do.
The day before (our suggestions)
- Do a short flashcard session, then stop. Rest matters more than a last long cram.
- Put your ID where you will not forget it.
- Plan your journey with time to spare.
On the day
- Follow the centre’s instructions and read each question carefully.
- Remember the pass mark: 75%, or 18 of 24.
- Check every answer before you finish. You have 45 minutes, which is plenty for 24 questions.
We do not know the rules of every test centre, so always follow what GOV.UK and your booking confirmation say.
